Case Study

Beedie Industrial

Beedie Industrial is developing a warehouse on Tsawwassen First Nation land, and the development will feature two large Coast Salish art pieces on the front of the building.

Beedie wanted a video that documented the artistic and cultural process behind the two pieces for their own communications use, as well as to give attendees at the unveiling a deeper perspective on the art and the artists. Two videos were needed: one for the unveiling event itself, and another that also included the festivities of the unveiling.

Artist Karl Morgan recommended Little Ram Productions to Beedie to capture key moments, from the blessing of the log to carving, painting, and the unveiling. Little Ram has worked with Karl Morgan since 2021 on other related projects.

Pre-production

We met virtually to discuss and set the goals of the video, budgets, schedules, and expectations. Since we had worked with the artist and TFN before, we were able to offer guidance on the artist's process.

Production

Although production was only four days of filming, we efficiently spaced those days across different seasons to match the video's theme. We also became the liaison between the artists and Beedie, directing scenes, interviewing, capturing b-roll, and safeguarding the data over the two-year period. Two copies of the raw data were stored in different locations on local private networks and secure drives.

The video included a couple of cultural ceremonies. We followed all protocols, respected the performing members, and took our lead from the artists.

Little Ram handled all technical production, drone shots, scriptwriting, and interviews.

Post-production

In editing, we transcribed all the footage, selected the best clips, and composed the images to sound and music.

The first draft of the video, intended for the audience at the unveiling, was delivered within two weeks of the last day of filming. We coordinated editorial approval with both the artists and Beedie.

Deliverables

In the end, we delivered two videos: one to be viewed at the unveiling event, and a second that incorporated the unveiling event itself as a complete video. Both drafts were delivered within two weeks of the last day of filming.

The project was completed on time and on budget.
